The end of summer is a bittersweet time as I look forward to fall and am forced to gear up for yet another busy semester at IUPUI. Unlike in past months, my fall semester includes seven courses and fifteen hours spent working in an office for one of my scholarship programs. I have a lot of work ahead of me!
My courses are particularly varied this time around with subjects including sports journalism, Spanish, oceanography, and event management.
I now have the added responsibility of acting as Lead Scholar for the university’s Social Justice Education programs, a position which I’m extremely grateful for because it allows me to expand on my marketing portfolio. Starting that position last Monday was one of the highlights of the week, and I immediately felt right at home with my cutely decorated desk space.
The other highlight of the week was actually exercising – something I don’t think I’ve ever said or written before. I decided to take Zumba for one credit this semester, which was much cheaper than continuing my gym membership. My first two Zumba sessions were super fun, and perhaps even more intense than I anticipated. Still, it felt really great to be active and to finish out Tuesday & Thursday feeling fully exhausted and sore. At the end of our second session I immediately wanted more and I’m really looking forward to going again this coming week. It may not be the solution to everyone’s hatred for working out, but I certainly enjoy it more than any other type of exercise I have tried.
All in all, it was a fun but challenging week as I am still trying to get back into the school routine. I’m looking forward to seeing how I handle the challenges before me.
